INWOOD, NY — A contamination cleanup has been completed for a former sheet metal fabrication factory in Inwood, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said.

Remediation took place from June through September that included excavation and off-site disposal of about 1,700 cubic yards of petroleum-contaminated soil and volatile organic compound source material, along with three underground storage tanks. The site is located at 175 Roger Ave.

Groundwater primarily contaminated with VOCs was treated with chemical-reducing agents directly into the groundwater.

Long-term management of the site includes monitoring, operation and maintenance, the state said.

The site was used as a sheet metal fabrication factory starting in 1961. It is bordered to the north by Roger Avenue, with a parking lot (a former oil terminal) to the northwest and a gravel/soil recycling facility and commercial buildings to the northeast.
